“The Shack” presentation

“The Shack” presentation
by Jack Cottrell (Notes) on Monday, March 23, 2009 at 2:19pm

Well, I just finished putting the final touches on my review of Young’s novel, “The Shack.” I will present this review at the Theological Forum (part of a weekly series) on the campus of Cincinnati Christian University at 11 a.m. tomorrow (Tuesday, March 24) in Foster Hall in the Library-Grad School building. My original title for this review was “Big Mack Attack, Hack-a-Shack, Jack-a-Shack: An Analysis of the Best-Selling novel, ‘The Shack.'” That seemed burdensome, though, and many non-NBA fans probably would not get the connection with “Hack-a-Shaq.” So now I am just calling it “‘The Shack’: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.” Later I will let you know how to access it on the web.

‘The Shack’: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Pamela Adams Tison I’m looking forward to reading your review.

Jack Cottrell I asked him to endorse my critique, but he said he was too busy. He wished me well, though!

Linda Wakefield Kelley Is your review available online? I read the book as part of a Bible Study for CHCA moms. We talked about the theological conflicts as well. I’d be interested in your take on the book. BTW–the author will be at CHCA this Thurs. and Fri. (3/26 and 27). More info is here: http://www.chca-oh.org/

Morgan Acosta I really enjoyed your insights on “The Snack.” Personally, I haven’t read it yet, but I’m thankful that you addressed the book honestly, rather than watering the issues down.

Kirk Sheppard The Shack is an excellent book and I have encouraged many clients struggling with forgiveness and father issues to read it. Wounded people – the target audience for this book – need to see God in this light in order to swallow the harder, wrathful side once they trust Him to love them unconditionally. I don’t think this book is any more dangerous than interacting with legalistic and abusive religious types. Thanks for the review – it was well thought out and helpful and thanks for allowing discussion on it!
