The Christological Fallacy — 7 Comments

    • I apologize for neglecting it. My last couple of years have not been typical. I will try to do better.

  1. Thank you, Bro. Jack. Quite clear! Another good read on this topic is your explanation in “What Is Central In Our Lives” posted on August 17, 2014 where you closed by stating – “In summary we are saying that the Creator is the essential center of our lives; the Bible is the epistemological center; and Jesus Christ is the existential (or experiential) center.” By the way, it was great for Central College of the Bible to have made available your three sermons during their anniversary recently in their youtube channel!

  2. Jesus’ statement in John 14:6 is focused on salvation–the way of salvation, the truth about salvation, the saved life. The Christian world view includes the truth about everything and is found in the Bible as a whole. The Christological fallacy wrongly says that Jesus’ main purpose was to give us knowledge, and that his direct teaching (red letters) is the standard by which all other teaching must be judged. One result of this, which happens a lot in our day, is to dismiss anything Paul wrote that Jesus did not say first, if one disagrees with it. Everything Jesus has said is the truth, but it is not the whole truth.

  3. Bro. Jack, on your statement about the attempt “to interpret Jesus Christ’s life and work primarily in terms of the KNOWLEDGE they convey to us, or to make him THE basic norm for truth,” how does this hold to John 14:6 where Jesus said He is the truth?
