“Second Work of Grace” — 2 Comments

  1. Guess my baptism came not all at once like it was sposed to! Yep, had water baptism, but eight months later there was more to come! The next experience was far more spiritual and not explanable other than Baptism in the Holy Spirit!
After reading this article I am still not sure what the Wesleyans believe by their Second Work of Grace…..it seems to be ambiguously written and not at all clear as to what their belief is. Would like to understand better. Something wonderful happened with me in the second experience , BUT for sure, I am not above sin! No one is, only Christ was. You do not arrive to that kind of holiness while
you are living in earth! That cannot happen here.

    • Allow me to identify the serious error in your thinking here. You are assuming that your moment of salvation, which is the event of Christian baptism in water, must involve some unique felt experience, which you would equate with “baptism in the Holy Spirit.” This is a false assumption, with no basis whatsoever in the Bible. In the NT, baptism in water IS baptism in the Holy Spirit, and no unique experience is promised as an accompaniment of it. We are simply asked to BELIEVE God’s promise that He is performing saving works upon us in this moment. Jesus stresses the seriousness of your error in Matthew 7:21-23, where He clearly shows that unusual spiritual experiences do NOT necessarily have any connection with salvation.
