Saved by Grace #7 — JUSTIFIED BY FAITH, YET JUDGED BY WORKS? — 5 Comments

  1. Thank you for sharing this material. I found this very helpful as I prepare a sermon on Matthew 25. God bless you and your ministry.

  2. Thank you for posting this. I thought this is a very well put together explanation. It so happens that I happened to have a meeting with a friend this morning who wanted to discuss our emphasis of works vs. grace…after reading Romans 2:1-16. I’m going to forward this to him.

You mentioned that in the OT, “judgment” isn’t always referring to a final judgment. I would add that it is sometimes the case in Romans as well when Paul refers to God’s wrath. We see in 2:5 Paul state that they are “storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath”. One wrath seems to be a current state in which they were under preceding the wrath at final judgment. Clearly, Paul was warning them about it in order that they repent. I believe it is implied in in 3:1-5 and 9:22 as well. Clearly, Paul believed that the Jews, though at the time under God’s “earthly” judgment, could believe and be saved before His “final” judgment. Anyway, I just add this for what it’s worth. I think people confuse God’s judgment by assuming scripture is referring to final judgment.

Thanks for writing this. I think this really adds a lot of clarity to this question of being judge by works and grace.
